About
Born in Tokyo in 1960, Toshiyuki Tanaka is a body educator and performance maker whose work connects Japanese movement culture with long-term artistic practice in Brazil. He coordinates Jardim dos Ventos in Embu das Artes and guides Fu Bu Myo In, an interdisciplinary field joining body, brush, sound, and space.
Toshiyuki is a licensed Do-ho teacher through Shintai Kyoiku Kenkyujo in Tokyo. His teaching draws on Seitai-ho, Do-ho, Japanese calligraphy, voice, and performance, approaching movement as a way to study organization, attention, ki, and the body's capacity to respond without unnecessary force.
His artistic work includes the performance Fugaku and collaborations across Butoh, Buyo, Noh, music, and visual practice. Within MSA, he contributes senior guidance on embodied transmission, Japanese body education, and the relationship between spontaneous movement and artistic form.
